Retaining Wall Services
- Segmental block retaining walls — interlocking concrete block systems in a range of colors and textures.
- Natural stone walls — dry-laid or mortared fieldstone and cut stone.
- Poured or block-and-veneer walls — concrete or CMU walls finished with stone or brick veneer.
- Garden and seat walls — low walls for planting beds, patios and terraces.
- Terraced walls — multiple shorter walls to manage steep grades.
- Retaining wall repair and rebuild — for leaning, bulging or collapsing walls, including old railroad tie and timber walls.
What Makes a Retaining Wall Last
Most wall failures come down to water and foundation, not the block itself. Every wall we build includes:
- A compacted gravel leveling pad below grade for a stable base.
- Buried first course for stability.
- Clean drainage stone behind the wall so water doesn't build pressure.
- A perforated drain pipe at the base, daylighted or tied into drainage.
- Geogrid reinforcement for taller walls, per the block manufacturer's or engineer's design.
- Proper setback (batter) so the wall leans into the hill.
Permits and Engineering
Taller walls, and walls that hold up a driveway, a structure, or a steep slope, typically require a construction permit and a design by a licensed engineer. We confirm requirements with your town and coordinate engineering when needed.
