How We Build a Pool Deck

Plan the layout and drainage so water flows away from the pool and the house, never toward them.
Excavate and compact the subgrade, with special care around backfilled soil near the pool shell, which tends to settle.
Install a compacted stone base in layers.
Set coping and pavers or stone, with expansion joints where the deck meets the coping and the house.
Finish joints with polymeric sand or grout and clean the surface.

We coordinate with your pool contractor on coping, tile lines, plumbing and safety equipment. Pool barrier and fencing requirements are set by your town and the building code; we will make sure deck work doesn't put your pool out of compliance.

What is the best pool deck material?

Textured concrete pavers and travertine are the most popular. Pavers offer many colors and are easy to repair. Travertine stays cooler underfoot. Light colors in either material reduce heat.

Are paver pool decks slippery?

Pool-rated pavers have a textured surface designed for wet bare feet. We help you choose a finish with good slip resistance and avoid smooth, polished surfaces.

Can you replace my cracked concrete pool deck?

Yes. We remove the old concrete, correct the base, especially over settled backfill, and install new pavers or stone. We can often replace coping at the same time.

Can pavers go over my existing concrete pool deck?

Sometimes, if the concrete is sound and there is enough height below the coping and doors. Pavers can be set on a mortar or adhesive bed over concrete. We evaluate this at the estimate.

When is the best time to redo a pool deck?

Fall and early spring, when the pool is closed, are the best times. Book early so the deck is ready by Memorial Day.

Do you build pools?

We build and replace the decks, coping and hardscapes around in-ground pools. We coordinate with licensed pool contractors for the pool itself.
