Front Stoop Repair and Replacement in Union City and North Jersey

Your front stoop is the first thing visitors see and the first thing they step on. In Hudson County, where many homes are 80 to 120 years old, stoops take a beating from salt, ice and settling. Loose bricks, cracked treads, wobbly railings and steps pulling away from the house are safety hazards and can hold up a home sale or certificate of occupancy. NJ Pro Paving repairs and rebuilds front stoops in brick, concrete, natural stone and pavers.

Front Stoop Services

  • Stoop repair — reset loose treads and bricks, repoint joints, patch spalled concrete.
  • Full stoop replacement — demolish and rebuild on new footings.
  • Brick stoops — classic red brick with bullnose or bluestone treads.
  • Concrete stoops — poured steps with broom, smooth or stamped finish.
  • Natural stone and bluestone stoops — thermal or natural-cleft bluestone treads and landings.
  • Paver and veneer stoops — paver or stone veneer over a concrete or block core.
  • Railings — install or replace railings.
  • Landings and walkways — tie the stoop into a new walkway or driveway.

Built Safe and to Code

A stoop is a staircase, and it has to meet the residential building code. We build with:

  • Consistent riser heights and tread depths so no step catches a foot.
  • A proper landing at the door.
  • Handrails where the code requires them; stairs with four or more risers need at least one.
  • Footings below the frost line so the stoop doesn't heave or pull away from the house.
  • Slight pitch on treads and landings so water and ice drain off.

We confirm permit requirements with your town before rebuilding.

FAQ

Front Stoops FAQ

Should I repair or replace my stoop?

If the problem is loose bricks, worn mortar or surface damage, repair is often enough. If the stoop is leaning, separating from the house, cracked through, or the steps are uneven, a rebuild on new footings is usually the lasting fix.

How long does a stoop replacement take?

Most residential stoops take about 3 to 7 working days, including demolition, footings, construction and cure time. We will set up safe temporary access if it's your main entrance.

Do I need a permit to rebuild my front stoop?

Many New Jersey towns require a permit for rebuilding stairs or landings, especially when the stoop connects to the house or sits in the public right-of-way. We check with your town and handle the permit when required.

What material lasts longest for a front stoop?

Brick with bluestone treads, natural stone, and well-built concrete all perform well when built on proper footings with drainage. The right choice depends on your home's style and budget.

Can you match my neighbors' stoops in a row of attached homes?

Yes. On rowhouse blocks we match brick, tread material and height so the stoop fits the streetscape.

Why is my stoop pulling away from the house?

Usually the footing is too shallow or was never there, so the stoop settles or heaves separately from the house foundation. A rebuild on proper footings solves it.
